Bear Roots Bamboo was started on a two acre piece of property south west of Langton, Ontario in 2006. The transformation has taken a lot of help and advice from my friends and an excellent book Bamboo for Gardens by Ted Jordan Meredith. Our Ontario winters can be a little hard on the plants but they all come back to life in the spring. I believe the harsh winters actually help to keep the Bamboo under control. Once or twice a year, the mother plant will send off runners and from these runners a line of new plants will emerge. They actually run quite close to the surface so I watch them and when they look like they might invade someone else's space, I either cut them off and pot the new plants or pull up the runner and redirect it back where it belongs. Either way is an effective and easy way to keep control. If you purchase plants from me and they do get away, I offer a service where I will come and get them back under control for you although I really don't think that will be necessary.
From time to time I will be offering other plants from my gardens so check my products page often and see whats there.
I am doing this as a hobby right now looking forward to retirement when I can be in my gardens all day every day. If you call and don't get an answer please leave a message and I will get back to you. If you come by and I am not home, please come back when I am.
